Robin Kingsland

"Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1899!"

Written and directed by Robin, This show gender-swapped A Christmas Carol's nephew Fred into Frederiqua, and fused a  little bit of La Boheme with the traditional story of Ebenezer Scrooge to create an exuberant musical mash-up.

Since 2012, Robin has written and directed three Urban Pantomimes. Fusing all the best traditions of traditional family panto, but adding a lively dash of urban style, slang and exuberant street dance from young chorus this fresh and exciting approach has proved an enormous hit with family audiences.

""Kat in Kixx" was fast moving, audacious and above all so much fun. The dancing was fabulous and there were plenty of feet tapping to the beat and kids bouncing up and down in their seats as the action rolled out across the stage. It was great to see the panto being multi generational and the smaller auditorium at The Dugdale allowed for far more interaction between case and audience making it a more personal experience. My sons both said they want to come and see it again!"

Kat in Kixx
"I went to see Kat in Kixx expecting it to be good but not nearly as fantastic as it was. This was a production that kept on getting better.
When panto is great it appeals to all ages and this is why I loved it - the script was brilliant and with such a fine cast is was executed to perfection. Even when on one occasion a line was missed, it didn't phase them as these actors know how to adlib. This is just as well, as I roared with laughter at one scene and the actor addressed me personally with a deadpan facing saying "You liked that, didn't you?" Well if I didn't say it then - It's a yes from me!
It all starts when Dottie a market stall holder finds out she may lose her pitch (an old factory site) to millionaire reality star Sir Alvin Treacle (Alan Sugar wannabe). He wants to build his spoilt daughter her own private theme park not realising that all his daughter wants is quality time with her dad. Dottie's employee Maxxie has a plan to save the factory into a pop up dance studio using her inheritance but not in the way she imagines and this is where Kitt - half cat, half man makes his grand entrance ... and it was very impressive. You had to be there.
Kat in Kixx is one of my favorite pantomimes ever."

Mumsnet Barnet & Enfield press review

""Kat in Kixx" was a brilliant and ‘fresh’ take on Puss in Boots. Combining the traditional panto ingredients of topical comedy, song, dance, audience participation and of course the obligatory baddie, it most definitely added 'extra sole' by showcasing amazing street dance and rap performances by ‘da crew’, making it a must-see show for all the family.
The street dancing was impressive. The entire crew performed with skill and gusto, and six year old Amelie was mesmerised by a dancer who appeared to be as young as five. So talented!
As impressive as the dancing was the singing and rapping. Each crew member had a fantastic voice, putting a twist on some pleasingly recognisable tunes to which an audience was able to feet tap and chair dance!
The Dugdale is an intimate venue that made for a particularly interactive show between cast and audience, which comprised all ages but especially children aged six up. We were lucky enough to be in the front row which meant we could enter into banter with Kat and other cast members. Their talent and experience shone through as they improvised with the brilliantly-written script to accommodate (friendly!) heckles from the audience!
Amelie’s verdict: ‘The panto was so good. So cool! I loved the gargoyles and the scary dungeon the best!’ I also took a three year old who, when the offer to dance with the cast at the end went out, jumped right into the stage area and gave it her all!
The purr-fect panto - go see!"
